Thomas Bryant Sealey, GYSGT USMC
10 Sep 1923 - 30 Apr 2001

This page is in memory of my father who saw action in World War II, Korea, & Vietnam.  He fought in some of the most distinguished battles that U.S. Marines took part in during his lifetime. Some of these were Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Peleliu, Okinawa, Inchon Landing, and Chosin Reservoir.

Dad graduated from boot camp at Parris Island, SC in October, 1941.   He was a presidential guard in Washington, DC when the World War II broke out.  He volunteered for the 1st Marine Raider Battalion in February 1942. After an injury during training, he found that the 1st Marine Raiders had been disbanded because of almost complete annihilation. He then joined the 1st Marine Division. He served with the 1st Batallion 7th Marines under Colonel Chesty Puller during WWII.  Toward the end of WWII he was assigned state-side as a Drill Instructor at MCRD, Parris Island, SC.  Later during Korea he served 1st Marine Division again - this time with 3rd Battalion 5th Marines.

I have compiled this information based on:

  • The records that I have seen
  • Knowledge gained while I was in USMC
  • Books I've read
  • Stories he told me
This is incomplete information. There are more medals/decorations, battles, and stories here. I plan to order his records and continue to research his life cross referencing historical documents with his records  I will make updates to this page as I get more data.
