Semper Fidelis

Semper Fidelis

The Marine Corps Motto:  Semper Fidelis – Latin for always faithful. A Marine is "Always faithful to his God, Country, and Corps"

Leatherneck:  Marines are known as "Leathernecks" This stems from the days of the Contenential Marines during the Revolutionary War.  The uniform of shipboard marines, who boarded enemy ships and fought hand to hand, included a thick leather neck peice to protect their neck.  This high stiff neck collar is still present in the dress blue uniform of modern day Marines.

The Marine Corps Emblem the Eagle, Globe, & Anchor:  The American bald eagle represents our country.  The globe represents our global presence "We have fought in every clime and place...".  The anchor represents our Naval heritage.

Devil Dog:  The Germans in World War I coined this phrase because of the doggedness of U.S. Marines in the battle of Belleau Woods.  This became the nickname for Marines.
