Tom's Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society Team in Training Page
UPDATE
We finished the triathlon and have a link to photos and results.

Hello my name is Tom Sealey.  I've created this page to aid in communication of the information about leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood related cancers.

I have decided to join the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Team in Training (TNT) and am training for the Accenture Chicago Triathlon on 29 August 2004.   By doing this I will have to log many miles as a fun way to help in the fund raising for LLS. While considering joining TNT I started thinking about friends, neighbors, & co-workers who have had to deal with these diseases within their own families. These blood-related cancers touch many more of us than we realize once we explore more into the family histories of the people around us.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. More than 75 percent of our expenditures is directed to research and patient services. The Society has dedicated itself to being one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies in terms of dollars that directly fund our mission.

Jennifer Michel Keefer
Jennifer grew up in Ohio and devoted much of her adult life to serving the city of Columbus, Ohio through the local art museum and chamber orchestra.  She and her husband Anthony lovingly raised their young children Elizabeth and Henry.  Jennifer also sought to help children through the arts and Christian education.  In January 2003, at age 33, she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgekin's Lymphoma.  The medical treatment she received was not successful against her aggressive cancer.  She died within three months of her diagnosis.

Jennifer is the twin sister of one of my co-workers (Jeff Michel).  She is my patient honoree.  I am dedicating the training and triathlon to her.

Paula Stone
At the age of 48, Paula had 3 grown daughters, a new grandson and was very much looking forward to an exciting new phase of her life when she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (stage four).   After 7 months of chemotherapy, her oncologist told her that she had less than 2 years to live but could improve her chances and quality of life with a bone marrow transplant.  Due to difficulties endured as a result of the transplant, Paula took about a year to convalesce and is still following up closely with doctors who take quick action at the first sign of any trouble.  Twelve years later, Paula is active with her family and church and counsels/encourages fellow cancer patients.
Paula is the mother of another of my co-workers (Melissa Stone). Her courage and unfaltering determination in the face of this this disease are an inspiration to us all.
